The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary findings into the serious incident involving Air India flight AI 2379, which was operating from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, 2026.
According to the official preliminary findings, the Airbus A320 experienced a sudden altitude variation of around 300 feet while cruising. The aircraft later stabilised and landed safely in Delhi.
What Happened to Air India Flight AI 2379?
The flight experienced a serious in-flight upset during cruise after the aircraft’s systems recorded a temporary loss of pressure involving all three hydraulic systems.
During the sequence of events, the autopilot disconnected and warnings were triggered. The aircraft experienced a sudden altitude variation before the hydraulic systems recovered and the flight stabilised.
The aircraft was carrying 137 passengers, including three infants, along with eight crew members. A total of 20 passengers and four cabin crew members were reported injured.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, the aircraft landed safely in Delhi.

However, the preliminary report does not establish that the pilot’s test result caused the hydraulic system event or the sudden altitude variation.
The technical cause of the incident is still under investigation.
