The javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, which was expected to be another showcase for India’s javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra, took an unexpected turn. Despite a strong start to the competition, easily qualifying with a single throw of 84.85m, Chopra struggled in the final.

His performance was marked by visible frustration, particularly after his third attempt, which resulted in a foul. He was unable to replicate his qualifying form, and his best throw in the final was a disappointing 84.03m. This performance ultimately placed him in eighth position, a stark contrast to his usual dominance.
The result was a rare setback for the Olympic and World Champion, who was eliminated from the medal contention after his fifth attempt. While his journey in this particular final ended earlier than anticipated, his impressive record of consistently strong throws and his fifth consecutive time qualifying with a single throw remain a testament to his talent and consistency.

Gold medal: Keshorn Walcott (88.16m)
Silver medal: Anderson Peters (87.38m)
Bronze medal: Curtis Thompson (86.67m)
