As long as I remember learning about the world of podcasts, one of the most powerful and one of the most emotional encounters that I remember listening to was between Ranveer Allahbadia and Gaur Gopal Das from The Ranveer Show. Where most other times I find podcasts on Entrepreneurship, Making Money, Wise Investment Strategies, Fitness regimes or Legends’ Lifestyles, the one episode I think about is one discussing what every human aspires for at some stage of his/her life.
In a world where so much is coming at us so quickly, we are all racing toward some goal or other. Some for fame, fortune, recognition or even to be loved. The irony however is that for many of us we have achieved each of those goals and yet still wake up feeling lost, miserable and confused.
This was the main topic of this talk.
The podcast didn’t have any magic cure or impossible motivational speeches.. It provided down-to-earth tips about happiness, human relations, dealing with feelings, and finding a sense in ordinary life.
What was so engaging about that episode was how Gaur Gopal Das was able to teach life lessons through stories and everyday examples, effortlessly connecting to students, professionals and entrepreneurs, to parents and young adults.
To countless people, this not only was a discussion on one podcast, it was an opportunity of reflection.

The Beginning of the Conversation
To begin this debate we chose to speak about a feeling which touches nearly every one of us: « being lost with the opportunities we have ».
Ranveer Allahbadia talks about how life is very confusing these days. We are more confused as to what we want in our life even with so much info available everywhere.
Gaur Gopal Das clarified how this occurs due to a conformist lifestyle of following the ‘status quo’ and living externally.
He believes most people have pursued and spent many years of their lives chasing the wrong targets. They have gone to the wrong schools because of social pressure. They have chosen the wrong careers because of their parent’s ambitions. They compare bills, titles and social media likes.
And the consequence is an endless feeling of not being satisfied.
He pointed out that purpose isn’t something that just falls into place overnight. It unfurls as we grow into a clearer understanding of ourselves, of what we are gifted in, and of the difference we wish to make.
This really related back to the feeling that people don’t want to have life so well planned out.
Why Success Alone Does Not Guarantee Happiness
The other topic that was covered was the link between success and happiness. This was arguably the most important section.
Some think you should be happy once you’ve “got” something, like a promotion, new house, more money or being homeless.
Gaur Gopal Das was more skeptical about this idea.
He says we can find a lot of comfort and convenience in external accomplishments, but he also says, nothing can assure us that we will be satisfied within:
The conversation brought to light the questions of how so many successful individuals can have success, yet experience stress, disappointment, one. Together, in the face of all that’s supposed to have value to hit hardest.
He would say that happiness has nothing to do with circumstances. It is related to attitude, thankfulness, people, feelings.
A few wheels in the minds of viewers were turning.
He proposed replacing the question “How much have I got done?” with the deeper question, “How fulfilled am I becoming?”
The Problem with Comparison Culture
The comparison is one of the reasons why this episode was such a hit.
In this digital age, technology has changed the way people talk about success.
Everyday we are exposed to images of other people daily, showing off their extravagance, relaxing holidays, Lamborghini lifestyles, success stories of their business and certain personal accomplishments. We are all inspired by these images but they can also result in guilt sometimes.
Gaur Gopal Das shared that: Comparison is the fastest way to destroy peace of mind
As soon as people compare their lives, it is just impossible to take what is good.
The podcast touched on every person having their own situation, personal strengths and opportunities, as well as adversities in life. Comparing two very different lives is often not a very positive thing to do.
What he did instead was tell the viewers to put their eyes on the progress and compare that to the achievement
It shouldn’t be to beat someone else.
Never compare yourself to someone else. Instead, aim to outgrow the person you were yesterday.
This simple yet powerful message was voted one of the most forwarded pieces of the episode.
Relationships and Emotional Intelligence
One of the other most large sections of the podcast was about relationships.
In today’s world, so much energy is put into career striving to the neglect of personal relationships.

Relationships and Emotional Intelligence
One of the other most large sections of the podcast was about relationships.
In today’s world, so much energy is put into career striving to the neglect of personal relationships.
Gaur Gopal Das said that one of the most powerful variables towards producing lasting happiness is having substantial relationships.
But a healthy relationship involves more than feeling loved.
They need understanding, patience, communication, patience and emotional maturity.
He talked about how too many conflicts happen because instead of trying to understand others people try to be understood.
Many people found this slight change of angle quite illuminating.
They were all part of the discussion and what was said.
He reiterated this message a number of times during his presentation – – strong relationships are formed with time and attention.
Dealing with Failure and Difficult Times
Everyone hits the bumps..
There’s no such thing as if you fail at a business, lose a relationship, go broke, under perform academically, or suffer a personal loss: Challenges are truly unavoidable.
In the podcast, the instructors confronted this reality head on.
Instead of meaning to get an entirely pain free life, Das clarified that any growth is generally outside the standard of pain.
He proposed that events are not the cause of our suffering. It is how we interpret what those events mean that causes suffering.
Two individuals can face the same disappointment and react in very different ways.
You can see it as a dead-end.
He may see it as a chance to learn and start over.
The larger one of the lessons the episode taught me is this change in my thinking.
We talked about how instead of being afraid of troubles, we should train ourselves to face them positively with perseverance.
Finding Purpose in Everyday Life
Perhaps the most important question addressed during the podcast was:
“Why are we here?”
Rather than giving one answer that applies to everyone’s situation, Gaur Gopal Das took a more realistic approach,
He said that purpose often comes not from twiddling your thumbs but rather from doing something that really works.
Before doing something, many people spent years searching for the greatest life mission without doing a thing.
Instead, the artist called on viewers to live actively and help others, learn always and serve their community.
The purpose is often found through experience.
It thrives on people behaving in accordance with their beliefs.
This viewpoint felt really freeing because it proved that meaningfulness doesn’t have to be big and dramatic.
Hence, note that… The power of kindness, service, knowledge and development-even however, they’re at a number of degrees-however, they can generate a life.
Why the Podcast Became Viral
The episode was one of the most loved conversations on The Ranveer Show because it spoke about human problems and being communal.
This was not a debate over riches or the glory of fame. This discussion was over questions which specifically dealt with people no matter their age, their job, their history, or their upbringing.
Viewers connected with topics such as:
- Finding meaning
- Managing stress
- Building relationships
- Overcoming comparison
- Developing gratitude
- Pursuing happiness
Another important factor that contributed to the success of the podcast was Gaur Gopal Das’ ease of communication.

This is not just for those who are into spirituality.
For everyone who has ever wondered if life was really taking them on the right path, felt too much pressure and got stressed, been shaken by failure and asked themselves if just succeeding is truly the only way to happiness.
I believe the conversation itself is sound advice that many might take and bring to the table in their lives. We learn how to be in better relationships, to become emotionally intelligent, self conscious and to live intentionally.
It is still very current, years after it was made by the time the pictures from the footage were taken.
